The Order of Melchizedek
The Priesthood of Melchizedek, also referred to as the Order of Melchizedek, is an eternal service order called to teach, heal, and facilitate humanity’s spiritual evolution. Its ministry is on earth as well as other realms connected to the earth.
It works through dedicated individuals to spread love, wisdom, and healing, guiding the collective consciousness toward a more unified and spiritually aware future, with equality for all sentient beings.
The priesthood is one way that God shares Love to all parts of Itself. It is part of an ongoing circuitry of energy, available to Mother Earth and her inhabitants on many levels at all times.
There is no doctrine, no dogma, no dress code; those ordained do their work as they are called. The priesthood does not discriminate by age, gender, lifestyle, religion, form or any other way. From the moment they are ordained, each person enters into a twenty-four-hour-a-day call to service.
If the world goes crazy from the negative attitudes (cause) and subsequent earth changes (effect), the priesthood will be present, serving as midwives for the birth of a new golden age. If attitudes cannot be improved with love, it will be the priesthood’s job to assist a world in transition–and we may be in for a bumpy ride.
The need for spiritual hugs may be great.

“What is the Priesthood? The Priesthood, among other things, is a beautiful, tremendous grapevine. One of the most extraordinary potentials is the camaraderie and understanding in the Priesthood. Never mind our differences because we all have differences of opinion, but the camaraderie and the understanding we have for each other is remarkable. Always be receptive to each other. Be receptive.”
– Tom Sawyer, What Tom Sawyer Learned from Dying, Chapter 21
The Original Priesthood
Who is Melchizedek?
Melchizedek is a biblical figure introduced in Genesis, and is only mentioned in three books of the bible: Genesis 14:18-20, Psalm 110:4, and Hebrews 5:6, 10, and 6:20. He was the King of Salem, later to become Jerusalem. There are no accounts of lineage or record of his beginning or end.
Abraham, who was from Ur, encountered Melchizedek after a battle in which he rescued his nephew Lot. Melchizedek, the righteous king, met Abram with bread and wine and blessed him. With his blessing and the “ah” breath of life, Abram was renamed to Abraham and his wife Sarai to Sarah as part of their covenant. Abraham recognized Melchizedek as a royal priest of the God Most High–belonging to a priesthood much older than the Levites which didn’t appear until about 400 years later. That was the birth of the original Order of Melchizedek.
Jesus was also appointed by God “as a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”. According to Tom, one of the reasons Jesus didn’t succeed as well as he could have was because the priesthood on earth wasn’t established at the time, only the sect of the Essenes were present. Turns out the plane of earth was much denser than anticipated, and people couldn’t see Jesus’ Christ Light shine physically. Having the full priesthood present would have made his job much easier.
According to Edgar Cayce, the Book of Job was written by Melchizedek. Melchizedek is said to be an intrusion from a higher plane at a time when mankind could still see Light Beings. The teachings that Melchizedek imparted later became codified within the kabbalah and the Law of One.
The Modern Priesthood
Every few millennia, the need for the priesthood to reconnect emerges. As Mother Earth transitions, the world will need the priesthood to help facilitate healing during the growing pains. Many near-death experiencers and spiritual people have recognized the call from Melchizedek to reconvene. Many Melchizedek-minded groups began appearing around the same time. Tom Sawyer believed the only person who was bestowed the gift of ordaining people into the Order of Melchizedek during this time is Reverend Daniel Chesbro.
Dan Chesbro Heeds the Call
One October night in 1978, Dan was awakened from a dream in which a Light Being who identified itself as Melchizedek had come to him. At the time, Dan was a Baptist minister at a large church in Rochester.
In February, 1986, two years after meeting Tom Sawyer, Dan was given the definite commission to “call the Priests” and ordain them into the Order of Melchizedek. In the following weeks and months, through spiritual messages, dreams, and talks with Tom, Dan learned more about the Priesthood and what he was to do.
Since 1986, there have been over 17000 ordinations worldwide. Approximately 85 percent of those ordained are women. All the priests have volunteered to be ordained. Dan was told that he could never personally invite anyone to be ordained, nor could he refuse anyone who asked. His job was to tell people about the Order, and wait for them to come and request ordination on their own.
Dan was instructed in the process of Ordination which included giving each initiate a staff, baptizing them with water, anointing them with oil, and blowing the breath of life into their aura, declaring them Priests forevermore according to the Order of Melchizedek. The ordination attunes the initiation to the Melchizedek energy, similar to how reiki attunements work. Many are preordained.
Dan shares that the current terminology refers to this group as “Light Workers” or “Souls of the White Light.” He was told that the Priests are protected by the power of St. Michael.
The Priesthood Symbol
Dan received the Melchizedek symbol in a dream when he was 18. The triangle represents a cone pouring Christ light into the earth, represented by the circle. The line is a disc between the earth and cone, equalizing and stabilizing the influx of this great, loving energy. The vowel tones associated with the triangle, line and circle are A-E-O, respectively.
The vowel tones and the symbols can be used as protective and healing tools, adding more power to all other symbols used in one’s light work.
According to Tom Sawyer, the vibration of the priesthood is 22, the master builder number.
Tom’s Involvement
Tom advocated for the Order of Melchizedek, but didn’t become ordained until it was time for him to anchor the Blue Light in 1991. Prior to that, Tom attended priesthood gatherings that were held every year at Geneseo College in upstate New York. He would make himself available to teach and to heal, often staying up all night to teach and answer questions.
Other than “love-balming” during the Middle East crisis and the Blue Light anchoring ceremonies, Tom did most of his work on his own while “cruising the main,” as he put it, but he also asked his friends to join in sending energy to some particular person or event. For many years, he meditated and prayed fervently every evening, often ending at 3:15am, even when he tried to break the pattern. If you’ll notice, 3+1+5=9, and 9 is the number of completion. During the period of the Berea tornado, he was praying between 4 and 5am. He frequently spent time praying early in the morning.
The School for the Prophets
The School of Prophets was created by the prophet Samuel to pass on the teachings of Melchizedek. The initiates in the School of Prophets became Priests in the Order of Melchizedek to teach and to heal in their time. Samuel’s work was to build a foundation for the kingdom of David.
Almost 2 centuries later, the prophet Elijah was guided to call the School into being again at Mount Carmel. He was to maintain Samuel’s foundation, and further it towards the time of Jesus.
Astrology, numerology, phrenology, visions, sacred music, and other occult sciences were taught to initiates for the purpose of divining the will of God. When Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 CE, it also closed the School.
In the first full moon in August, 1990, the School of Prophets was reconvened by Dan Chesbro, providing instruction through music, astrology, body movement, psychology, Kabbalah, sacred geometry, and the healing arts to aid anyone interested in learning a process for tuning in to God’s will.
The Ways Priests Help
The most important thing the priesthood can do to help is change the world’s attitudes through the sharing of unconditional love.

“If you can do nothing else but love the people involved in any of this, please love those people over in that part of the world that are dealing with war, and strife, and greed, and ego. Love them. Try desperately to love them enough to have them love themselves enough to change an attitude.”
– Tom Sawyer, Tom Sawyer and the Spiritual Whirlwind, Chapter 13
Those who are called at this time are being guided to express this love in ways that are uniquely suited to their personalities. Learn to love yourself unconditionally, then allow that love to shine and flow through you, unconditionally.
We need to remain calm and receptive to the guidance from our higher selves and God, whatever God’s will may be. Remember, it is our free will that got us here, collectively, in the first place.
In addition to our callings, there are tools at our disposal that we can use individually or in groups. Here are some of the tools that Tom used:
“As the world becomes more disturbed, emotions run high, and our basic human foibles begin to show, it’s important to maintain a spiritual perspective. As unexciting as they may be, prayer and meditation can assist us in remaining calm. And a little humor doesn’t hurt either. If we can hold an island of calm in the midst of a turbulent world, we’ll have done well.”

1. Fervent Prayer
Normal prayer is often calm, routine, or reflective—it might be recited words, gratitude, or requests said in a peaceful state. Fervent prayer is deeply passionate, urgent, and heartfelt. It’s the kind of prayer where someone is pouring their whole heart into their praying—often during moments of great need, longing, or conviction.
This practice requires releasing conscious thought processes, ego, and the expectation of personal favors, and instead focusing on asking God for guidance or assistance to enhance our ultimate good and for the well-being of others.
Fervent prayer involves a willingness to offer one’s time and energy for divine intervention, allowing for an overabundance of unconditional love to be cultivated within oneself, which then enables one to “shine” and extend that love outwardly for healing. In a state of fervent prayer, one may even perceive a column of light emanating through the crown of the head and up beyond perception.
Fervent prayer isn’t about volume or drama—it’s about spiritual intensity and emotional sincerity. Through this process, individuals can send “telekinetic love energy” and “love-balm” situations and people, influencing positive change and healing from a distance.

“ You can’t be physically depleted and do certain types of spiritual work. Fervent prayer—it doesn’t matter the condition you’re in, you can be comatose and facilitate that.”
– Tom Sawyer, What Tom Sawyer Learned from Dying, Chapter 19
2. Spiritual Hugs
Spiritual hugs, as described by Tom Sawyer, are a form of non-physical, telepathic connection where loving healing energy is transmitted to another person in traumatic or injurious citation This can involve sending a “loving nudge or hug” to provide additional protection from injury or to comfort those in traumatic situations, even from a great distance. Tom himself has psychically and spiritually hugged individuals during events like the Lhasa earthquake or a plane crash to make their lives better or their passing easier, stating that the recipient might perceive this as being hugged by a “Godly angel”. This ability is not exclusive to highly evolved individuals; anyone can learn to perform spiritual hugs, particularly through fervent prayer, and it brings great joy to the giver while making the world go around a little easier.
3. Love Balming
Love-balming is a collective or focused effort to surround a person or situation with a relentlessly positive attitude and energy to bring about attitudinal change or prevent negative events. It is a specific and powerful technique rooted in spiritual principles, primarily aimed at transforming attitudes. Tom Sawyer describes it as a way to effect change without direct interference or manipulation, driven by unconditional love. These steps were compiled from both Tom Sawyer books by Sidney Saylor Farr.
1. Cultivate an Unconditional, Positive Mindset:
- Release all negative thoughts, questions, or problems concerning the individual or situation you are love-bombing.
- Avoid any form of judgment, greed, or ego in your intention or actions.
- Refrain from discussing or dwelling on any adverse circumstances related to the person or situation.
- If you don’t love yourself, how can you extend love to anyone else? You have to be pure of heart. You have to be honest. You have to love yourself.

“Often people truly believe they are doing good and cannot see their own greed and/or ego. To overcome this, it requires sharing truth and caring to be helpful to each other in this circumstance. All of this is part of reverence.”
– Tom Sawyer, Tom Sawyer and the Spiritual Whirlwind, Chapter 10
2. Focus and Direct Benevolent Energy:
- Keep all interactions and internal thoughts on a positive level.
- Surround the individual or situation with joy and humor, which can involve telling jokes or providing entertaining experiences.
- For those at a distance, this can be achieved through “fervent prayer” or by “psychically or spiritually hugging people that are far, far away”.
3. Express Simple Acts of Love (When Physically Applicable):
- If you are in the physical presence of the person or situation, affect change with “something as simple as a smile or a hug”.
- Understand that in a hug, you are transmitting information and energy intuitively or subconsciously.
4. Act Selflessly and Without Expectation:
- The act must be heartfelt and honest, not based solely on lust or manipulation.
- Love the person or situation “regardless of the outcome”.
- Do not attempt to manipulate the individual or control the specific results; rely on the spiritual flow.
- Recognize that your actions are a “love gesture” and should be for the well-being of the other, not for self-gratification or proving anything.
5. Rely on Faith and Your Inherent Spiritual Capacity:
- Trust in your inherent “capacity to love” and the spiritual guidance received.
- Understand that your essential nature is compassion, and allowing this understanding will facilitate the necessary actions of loving and being loved.
4. Anchoring the Blue Light
In the early 1990s, the priesthood began organized trips around the world to anchor the Blue Light of Christ at healing centers. The purpose was to renew and regenerate the energy at these centers, and their proximity to the 30th parallel ensured the energy reached the population of the entire planet.
Tom completed his work of anchoring the Blue Light. Participation from priests was offered with a nondenominational attitude and an open heart. See the section About Tom Sawyer or read Tom’s books to learn more about these trips.
A group of priests could choose to repeat the process when establishing a new healing center. And while not necessary, “tune-ups” at existing healing centers wouldn’t hurt.
“As Tom briefly described it, it was to complete the spiritual circuitry of the Earth. Reverends Tom and Dan would come to know exactly where to anchor the blue light. To anchor the light, open-hearted spiritually minded people would stand in a circle, holding hands if possible and silently pray. The prayer wasn’t prescribed, it was more to have love in your heart to give energy, than to fill a script.”
