A dear friend of mine stated something about a spiritual war occurring right now. The phrase ‘they are trying to defeat us’ was mentioned. It prompted me to reply with this:

The true spiritual war is within each of us. We all are subject to the exhortations of the ego; anger, greed, fame, power, on and on ad infinitum. It’s tempting to divide people into them and us, but that is also a function of the ego. We are all human, and we all fit somewhere on a scale from being lost to finding ourselves.

What appears to be ‘them against us’ is simply those who are lost desperately trying to maintain their attachment to aspects of their egos – due to their own fears of not knowing what else there may be.

Just as dark is not a thing in itself but simply the absence of physical light, the many variations of anger, greed, fame, power, and whatnot, are simply what happens in the absence of spiritual Light.

We are all in this together, simply at different places along that scale.

The search for enlightenment can be selfish, a cry for release from earthly difficulties or a misguided desire for aggrandizement.

But, beneath it all, our deepest desire is integration with the Divine, and we ourselves are the blockage.
